Day 5 | 30 Days of Writing My middle son, Ben, FaceTimed me today. He wanted to find out what I was doing for my birthday and when he could join in. Very sweet. It never crossed my mind that Ben would drive to Omaha on a busy weekday. It also reminded me that he is the only one of my three kids with a driving distance day-trip option. I reminded him of this fact shortly after Grant moved to join brother, Zach, in Colorado. "Ben, you do know that you are kind of like the only child now. And I'm a little vulnerable. If I were you, I would totally milk the situation." I was trying to be funny, yet there was a bit of seriousness. It did sound appealing to have a child to dote on again. Not the right way to feel, but feelings aren't always right or wrong. They're just feelings. Ben laughed it off and never gave in to my wicked temptation. The reality is that even if he wanted to, he couldn't. He has his own life and is very busy. But he has made a...

January 22, 2015: Where to Start...

Saturday's blog?? For the record, it's not because I have nothing to write. My lack of consistent writing is not because of lack of story content. It's due to lack of time to put pen to paper (good visual, but you know what I mean). The stories in my head continue to build. When writing backlog occurs, my head feels like it's exploding; full of stories and feelings of everyday when life is too fast-paced for me to release what is on my mind. Every day the thoughts are there, but the time somehow seems to escape me. Full disclosure....I just took my Christmas decorations down last night and my car continually reminds me that...

November 5, 2013: I'm Back

Notice my blogging companion to my left I haven't been very consistent in my writing as of late. Although I had convinced myself that daily writing wasn't necessary and I didn't need the pressure, it has caused me to have a couple of "aha" moments. My first "aha" thought is that a deadline and an expectation, even if self-set, is a good thing. In order to hold ourselves accountable, we need goals. And doing things we love on a consistent basis is nothing short of free therapy. When you enjoy something, you find the time. A friend constantly tells me there are only 24 hours in a day. Knowing that sleep is important, that brings available hours to 17 with eyes open. I don't watch TV. I don't like to chat on the phone. And I don't look down my nose at those who do. How I like to fill my time outside of work and obligations is spending time with family and building relationships. And I like to write. That's what I do in my spare tim...
